A3 Archival Print | Framed or Unframed
A tribute to the decade that defined independent music in Britain. This meticulously designed A3 print chronicles every No. 1 single from the UK Indie Chart between 1980 and 1989 capturing a raw, revolutionary era of post-punk, synth-pop, noise, and DIY spirit.
Inspired by the vintage layout and typography of British music newspapers and indie chart listings, the design echoes the bold, type-driven aesthetic of NME, Melody Maker, and Record Mirror, publications that gave shape and visibility to the indie identity throughout the '80s.
Featuring landmark tracks like Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division, Blue Monday by New Order, and There Is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths, this timeline documents the artists who dominated the UK Independent Singles Chart from Cocteau Twins and Yazoo to The Jesus and Mary Chain, Depeche Mode, Crass, and The Stone Roses.
Each chart entry includes:
-
The date the single first reached No. 1
-
Weeks spent at the top
-
Song title
-
Artist and record label
A detailed reference and visual time capsule for collectors, designers, DJs, and music lovers alike and a must-have for anyone passionate about the UK indie scene.

Who’s Behind The Sense of Doubt ?
I’m Alejandro De Luna, the creator behind The Sense of Doubt; a solo studio in Madrid making wall art inspired by music, pop culture, and heritage. What began as a way to make sense of the records, places, and stories that shaped my life has grown into a visual archive that connects moods, history, and art.
I research, design, and hand-sign every piece myself in small batches, and today more than 10,000 art lovers in over 20 countries have my prints on their walls. People describe the work as “brilliantly researched,” “put together with great care,” and “a true labour of love.” That’s exactly what it is; no shortcuts, just me doing the work because I love it.
