Depeche Mode started out as one of several UK synth pop bands chasing the Human League and OMD sound, and ended up outlasting nearly all of them by getting darker, not lighter, as the decades went on. This print maps the entire trajectory, from the bright, almost naive electronics of Speak & Spell (1981), the only album made with founding songwriter Vince Clarke before Martin Gore took over writing duties, through the industrial-tinged turn of Black Celebration and Violator, to Songs of Faith and Devotion's heavier guitars, and on to Memento Mori (2023), their first album made after the death of Andy Fletcher.

Every studio album and its key singles are laid out in chronological order, tracing how a band that started as teenage electro-pop outsiders became one of the most influential acts in electronic music, a claim that's easy to make and rarely this easy to actually see mapped out.
