RETURNS & REFUND POLICY

At The Sense of Doubt, every artwork is carefully researched, produced and packaged with great care. If something isn't right with your order, we're committed to resolving it fairly and as quickly as possible.

This policy explains your rights regarding cancellations, returns, refunds and replacements.

1. Right to Cancel (European Union)

If you are purchasing as a consumer within the European Union, you generally have the right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days of receiving your order without giving any reason.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, please contact us at:

before returning your order.

Once you have informed us of your decision to cancel, you must return the goods within 14 days.

Refunds will be processed after the returned items have been received and inspected.

This statutory right does not affect any additional rights you may have under applicable consumer protection legislation.

2. Exceptions to the Right of Withdrawal

The right of withdrawal does not apply where permitted by applicable law, including products that are:

  • commissioned specifically for you;
  • personalised or customised;
  • produced according to your specifications;
  • otherwise exempt under applicable consumer legislation.

The product page will clearly indicate where a product falls into one of these categories.

3. Return Eligibility

To be eligible for a return:

  • the artwork must be returned in its original condition;
  • it must be free from damage caused after delivery;
  • it should be returned with its original protective packaging where reasonably possible.

You may inspect the artwork as you would in a physical shop, but any handling beyond what is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics or functionality may reduce the amount of any refund where permitted by law.

4. How to Request a Return

Please email:

and include:

  • your order number;
  • your name;
  • the reason for the return;
  • photographs where relevant.

We will provide the appropriate return instructions before the item is sent back.

Please do not return items without contacting us first.

5. Return Shipping Costs

If you are returning an item because you have changed your mind, you are generally responsible for the cost of returning the artwork.

If the return is due to:

  • an item arriving damaged;
  • an incorrect item being sent;
  • a manufacturing defect;
  • an error made by The Sense of Doubt;

we will cover the reasonable return or replacement costs.

6. Packaging Returns

Please package returned artwork carefully to prevent damage during transit.

Whenever possible, use:

  • the original mailing tube;
  • the original protective paper;
  • the original protective packaging.

Customers remain responsible for taking reasonable care of returned goods until they reach us.

For valuable international returns, we strongly recommend using a tracked and insured shipping service.

7. Refunds

Once your returned artwork has been received and inspected, we will notify you by email.

If the return is approved, the refund will be issued to the original payment method.

Refunds are normally processed within 10 business days, although your bank or payment provider may require additional time before the funds appear in your account.

Original delivery charges will be refunded where required by applicable law.

Additional delivery costs resulting from selecting a premium shipping service beyond our standard delivery option are generally not refundable.

8. Damaged Artwork

We take great care when packaging every print.

If your order arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible, preferably within 7 days of delivery.

Please include:

  • your order number;
  • photographs of the damaged artwork;
  • photographs of the shipping tube or packaging;
  • photographs of the shipping label.

Please retain all original packaging until the claim has been resolved, as it may be required by the carrier.

Where appropriate, we will offer one of the following remedies:

  • a replacement;
  • a repair or other suitable solution;
  • a partial refund;
  • a full refund.

Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights regarding goods damaged during delivery.

9. Incorrect or Missing Items

If you receive:

  • the wrong artwork;
  • the wrong size;
  • an incomplete order;
  • an item different from what you purchased;

please contact us promptly.

If the error is ours, we will correct it at no additional cost to you.

10. Manufacturing Defects

Every artwork is individually inspected before dispatch.

If you believe your print has a manufacturing defect, please contact us with:

  • your order number;
  • photographs;
  • a description of the issue.

If a defect is confirmed, we will arrange an appropriate remedy.

11. Lost Shipments

If your parcel appears to have been lost, please contact us.

We will investigate the shipment with the carrier.

If the carrier confirms that the parcel has been lost, we will normally offer either:

  • a replacement; or
  • a full refund.

12. Orders Returned by the Carrier

Occasionally, parcels are returned because:

  • the delivery address was incomplete or incorrect;
  • the parcel was not collected;
  • delivery was repeatedly attempted without success;
  • the recipient refused delivery.

Once the parcel has been returned to us, we will contact you.

You may choose, where appropriate:

  • reshipment after payment of the new shipping costs; or
  • a refund of the product price, less any non-recoverable shipping or return costs where permitted by law.

13. Non-Returnable Products

Unless defective or otherwise required by law, the following products cannot normally be returned:

  • commissioned artwork;
  • personalised prints;
  • custom-designed projects;
  • made-to-order products produced specifically for the customer;
  • digital downloads (where applicable).

14. Exchanges

We currently do not offer direct exchanges for different artworks or sizes.

If you wish to order a different item, please contact us before returning your purchase.

Where appropriate, we may recommend returning the original item (subject to this policy) and placing a new order.

If an exchange is required because we supplied an incorrect or defective product, we will arrange this at no additional cost.

15. Order Cancellations

If you wish to cancel an order, please contact us immediately.

Orders that have not entered production or been dispatched can usually be cancelled for a full refund.

Once production has begun on:

  • commissioned artwork;
  • personalised items;
  • made-to-order products;

cancellation may no longer be possible, subject to your statutory rights.

16. Refused Deliveries

If a customer refuses delivery without exercising their legal right of withdrawal, any refund may be reduced by reasonable costs incurred for shipping, return shipping, customs charges or carrier fees where permitted by applicable law.

17. Consumer Rights

Nothing in this Returns & Refund Policy limits or excludes any statutory consumer rights available under the laws applicable to your purchase.

Where this policy differs from mandatory consumer protection legislation, the applicable law will prevail.

Brought as a gift so not actually seen finished outcome but recipient happy. Very expensive really for what it is...couldn't afford to get a frame as well which is a shame. Delivery was really long - ordered on 5th, received on 24th... Unable to add gift message. Recipient happy, but overall wouldn't order from this company again as not worth cost and time

Everything you see, from the research and design to packing and shipping, is done personally by me with care and attention, and each print comes is hand-signed. As for the delay in receiving your Sheffield print, it was temporarily out of stock at the time of your order. While I did mention this on the website, I understand that it might have been missed – Sorry about that. Occasionally, there can also be delivery delays due to customs clearance, which is unfortunately out of my hands but still frustrating, I know. There is an option to add a gift message, which can be found in the cart drawer before checkout – but I’ll definitely look into making that clearer for the future.
