Liverpool's music history is often reduced to a single band, understandably, but the city's actual scene runs far deeper than The Beatles alone. This print maps that fuller picture: over 400 artists across more than seven decades, tracing how the Merseybeat explosion of the early 1960s, driven by Cavern Club regulars like Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers and Cilla Black alongside The Beatles themselves, gave way to genuinely different eras that rarely get the same attention.

Eric's Club in the late 1970s incubated a post-punk generation that included Echo & the Bunnymen and Julian Cope's Teardrop Explodes, both bands built on a shared scene but pulling in strikingly different directions, alongside Pete Wylie's Wah! and the politically sharp Frankie Goes to Hollywood, who turned 1984 into the year Liverpool briefly ran pop culture. The map continues into the 90s with The La's, whose one perfect album (and one enduring single, "There She Goes") became a template for the Britpop that followed, through Cast and Shack, and into more recent names like The Coral, The Zutons and Circa Waves.
