Seventy-two records, chosen chronologically rather than by fame alone, tracing Manchester's evolution from a scrappy punk outpost into one of the most influential music cities in the world. The story starts with Buzzcocks' Spiral Scratch EP (1977), widely credited as the first independent British punk record, released on the band's own New Hose label after they couldn't get signed, a genuinely DIY act that arguably kicked off the entire UK independent label movement.

From there, the print traces post-punk's arrival through Magazine and The Fall, into Factory Records' Joy Division and New Order, alongside A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column, all shaped by Martin Hannett's distinctive production. The Hacienda-era acid house crossover brings 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald into the frame, before The Stone Roses' self-titled debut and Oasis's Definitely Maybe mark the two commercial peaks that made "Madchester" and then Britpop into globally recognised phenomena. The Smiths, The Chameleons and James round out a catalogue built to show how many genuinely different sounds one city managed to produce inside two decades.

Who’s Behind The Sense of Doubt ?

I’m Alejandro De Luna, the creator behind The Sense of Doubt; a solo studio in Madrid making wall art inspired by music, pop culture, and heritage. What began as a way to make sense of the records, places, and stories that shaped my life has grown into a visual archive that connects moods, history, and art.

I research, design, and hand-sign every piece myself in small batches, and today more than 10,000 art lovers in over 20 countries have my prints on their walls. People describe the work as “brilliantly researched,” “put together with great care,” and “a true labour of love.” That’s exactly what it is; no shortcuts, just me doing the work because I love it.
