Manchester gets most of the attention when people talk about Northern music, but this print makes the wider case: 72 essential records spanning Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds and beyond, from the first wave of punk through to 90s rock and roll stardom. It includes groups like Buzzcocks, Cabaret Voltaire, Pulp, The Human League, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes and Gang of Four, chronologically mapped so the connections between cities and scenes are as visible as the records themselves.

Rather than treating the North as one homogenous scene, the print traces how differently punk landed in each city, and how those different starting points eventually converged into the Britpop and post-punk revival moments of the 90s.

I’m Alejandro De Luna, the creator behind The Sense of Doubt; a solo studio in Madrid making wall art inspired by music, pop culture, and heritage. What began as a way to make sense of the records, places, and stories that shaped my life has grown into a visual archive that connects moods, history, and art.
