New Order - The Complete Factory Records Story (1981-1990)

New Order's entire trajectory is contained in the nine years this print documents: a band that began as Joy Division's surviving members, uncertain whether they should even continue, and ended up inventing a genuinely new hybrid of guitar music and dance music that reshaped both. This print maps every track New Order released through Factory Records, from Ceremony (1981), a song written with Ian Curtis before his death and recorded after it, to World in Motion (1990), the England World Cup single that became, improbably, their only UK Number One.

Following the same systematic approach as the label's Joy Division print, it charts the band's full evolution: Movement (1981), the tentative, still Joy Division-adjacent debut; Power, Corruption & Lies (1983), where the shift toward electronic production and dance rhythm became unmistakable; and Low-Life (1985), alongside all twenty Factory-era singles and the Substance compilation. The print also documents "Blue Monday," the best-selling 12-inch single in UK chart history, whose famously expensive die-cut sleeve design (a Peter Saville creation modelled on a floppy disk) reportedly lost the label money on every copy sold.
